About This Collection

Long-distance hiking trails traverse some of the most geographically diverse and geologically significant landscapes in North America. From the ancient, weathered mountains of the Appalachian Trail and the volcanic peaks of the Pacific Crest Trail to the high elevations of the Continental Divide Trail and the sandstone canyons of the Hayduke Trail, each route follows a distinctive path through the continent's varied terrain. This collection of hiking trail map art explores these remarkable landscapes through detailed cartographic representations of four of America's most celebrated long-distance routes.

Our shaded relief designs combine authentic geographic elevation data with artistic terrain rendering to reveal the topographic character of each trail corridor. Mountain ridgelines, deep valleys, alpine basins, and the deeply eroded canyons of the Colorado Plateau emerge through carefully controlled shading, creating a realistic illusion of depth on flat paper. The resulting artwork places each trail within its broader geographic setting, highlighting the terrain that defines the hiking experience.

Each original trail map is designed and printed at East of Nowhere Map Art Studio in Upstate New York, using professional giclée printing techniques and fine art materials.
